NEW YEARS EVE

We are taking it easy today. I am trying to heal from my cough, so we are staying home for new years eve, even though we have had a few invitations. People can't quite get the fact that we prefer a quiet evening at home. We spent some time researching conflict resolution to get ready for our couples event, taking advantage of the quiet time. We also watched the Sun Bowl game this afternoon, and then went for a walk on the beach to watch the sunset. The Beach Club was already getting ready for the party tonight.

People come to this area from the capital to spend the holidays; therefore, it is very busy around here, but never to the extend that it is uncomfortable. There was a group of young people on the beach with a drum, sticks and clapping. They were dancing to the sunset. Another group was playing soccer barefooted on the beach. Couples were strolling, and some tourists were attempting to surf, but it was low tide. Now we are in for the rest of the evening.

This morning there was this locust on our back porch. With a little bit of honey, we are all set for dinner tonight. Just kidding!!

So, that is all for now. Happy New Year!!!

Until next time...from the beach...

We are back!

We made it Monday night without incidents. We were upgraded to first class during the trip San Diego - Houston, so we had a nice breakfast. We arrived at Liberia, Costa Rica at 8:40 pm their time. Our friends, Carlos and Rosario, and their son, Billy, were waiting for us. They drove our car from the capital. (See May 26, 2010 "SeƱor Fuga") Yes, the car is finally fixed!! It took the famous mechanic in San Jose 7 months and two fingers to fix it. The easiest way for Carlos to get the car to us was to drive it from San Jose and pick us up at the Liberia airport. We had dinner at a typical restaurant near the airport and then drove to our condo with the Corderos. Actually, Carlos drove the car. Carlos and his family spent the night with us.

Tuesday we had a late breakfast at the new beach club, right on the beach. The Corderos stayed at the beach, but John and I had to go grocery shopping. Upon returning, we contacted the bus line to figure out a schedule for the Corderos to get back to where they live. The most convenient bus left at 4:30 pm, but from a town 45 minutes from here. So we drove the Corderos to Santa Cruz, which is the name of the town, and dropped them off at the bus station. It is a 5 hour ride by bus to the capital. They are such nice friends to be willing to do this for us, especially since they had relatives visiting them for the holidays. The Corderos will be back here in January to spend some time relaxing and to do an event with couples. We have decided to talk about conflict resolution. You may start praying for that.

After dropping them off at the bus station, we went and parked the car by the catholic church and the central park. There is a good ice cream shop across the street from the church which we love to patronize. :) We then walked to our favorite appliance store (where you got me the slow cooker, Rubia) to buy an electric razor for John. The one he had here was moldy. We have found some mold in the condo because we have been gone for seven months. It is a long time for this humid environment.

Today we visited some of the staff here with whom we have become good friends. We were also going to have dinner with our good friends from town, but I have lost my voice. I was ill leaving California, and although I feel fine, I can't talk much; therefore, we decided to postpone tonight's dinner. A highlight of the day was talking with our friend Harry in India on Skype. He was up early because he did not feel very well. Nevertheless, it was good to see him and talk to him!
So, dear friends, we are here, safe and enjoying 80 degree weather.

Until next time...from the beach...
