Weeks Seventh and Eighth: Last Blog

This home is going up across from us. Notice the tin roof, but they will add a tile roof on top of that. Leaky roofs are very rare here.

"All good things must come to an end," somebody said; therefore, here we are at the last week of this journey. It has been a blessings to see how the Lord is working in some lives. It has been also a challenge to counsel and disciple. Counseling is not a strong skill for us, and it stretches us to the limit sometimes. Why has the Lord put us in a situation where we are called to counsel? I guess He wants us to be wholly dependent on Him. So, during these last two weeks we have continued on our discipling and counseling schedule; although we had a  few cancellations due to various reasons. Tonight we will have our last counseling meeting with Christian and Daniela.

We take a walk every morning. I thought it would be interesting to include some of the things I see while walking:

Mango trees - alas, mangoes are green still

Wooden bridge. There are usually monkeys around here, but never when I have my camera

Cattle, this is a hacienda

Cashews, also green. When they are ripe, they look like red bell peppers with the seed outside

Mountain bike trail. This one is for Pastor Hall

Ahh, the beach, finally

Beach club

This is a surfing beach. There are rip currents.

Going back

Almost home

Yesterday we listened to Pastor D's message on Building the Community. He had a strong emphasis on the spiritual gifts. After listening to the message, we started to prepare the lesson for Eduardo and Arelis. Guess what? It was on discovering your spiritual gifts! Same Bible references and everything. We were well prepared for last night's lesson. Eduardo and Arelis really liked it. I even found a spiritual gifts evaluation in Spanish online for them. Their homework was to take the evaluation and then go to their pastor and volunteer for service according to what they found out. I believe that Eduardo has the gift of evangelism and Arelis, the gift of hospitality. But, they have to get married first! Pray that they take that important step next trip.

Last Sunday afternoon we went to watch a football match in town. Keylor plays in the local team, and he had invited us to watch him play. Unfortunately, they lost! But for us, it was a great opportunity to be among the community having fun, just talking and joking around with everybody. It is an important part of ministry to identify with the community.

I have an especial prayer request: Walter and Yesenia are doing very well, but now there is a possibility that his job will take him far away, about a 6 hour ride from here. His schedule would be working 22 days in a row, staying at the site, and then 5 days off. The other couple who has been coming for marital counseling is Walter's boss. He would face the same challenge. This is not a good idea for either couple. The second couple is barely reconciling and the time away will be disastrous. Walter and Yesenia also are not mature enough in their walk with the Lord to be apart for such length of time. Please pray that the Lord will provide a construction job for their company here, so that they won't have to go.

Walter and Yua's mother, Terencia, had found a lump in her breast two years ago, but did not tell anybody. The lump kept growing, and finally it was discovered on her last check up. We prayed that it wouldn't be malignant. Well, today they went to the specialist and found out that it is just fat. She is absolutely fine. She also says that it is actually shrinking. PTL!

We are still dealing with the car. We took it back to the mechanic for a break adjustment, but, of course, the car did not make the noise it usually does when slowing down while the mechanic was driving it. We are leaving it up to Randall to try to fix it, and take it to the yearly DMV check. Pray that it passes the inspection on the first try.

We are leaving Saturday afternoon. It is a late flight. Pray that there won't be any delays because our second flight out of Houston is the last one. If we miss it, we will have to spend the night.

We want to thank you once more for keeping us in your prayers. We really cannot do this without your support. It is far beyond out human abilities. You are an important part of what is happening here.

Prayer requests:

  •  Pray that the Lord will put a hedge around all these couples. That they will remain faithful to each other and to the Lord.
  • Irene needs to make wise decisions.
  • Pray for the car to pass inspection on the first try.
  • Pray for our trip back home. That we will make both flights and arrive safely at our home.
Until next time...From the beach...
