First Week

It has been a week already! We have been fairly busy visiting our friends, and we had our first meeting with the couples on Saturday. Twenty people showed up. Some couples who had moved away are back in town and attended. We showed the movie Miracles from Heaven because Randall had requested it. I would not have brought the movie otherwise because it is so close to their own experience with Yiradi, but they saw it in the movie theater at the big city by the airport and wanted the group to see it. It is a very good movie. After the movie we had a little talk about miracles and trials. We read from Ro. 5:3-5 The movie comes with questions for discussion. I think we will have further discussion questions on our next meeting, which will be on Sunday because on Saturday there is a big meeting in town at the water district.

The reason for the water district meeting is that there is a developer, who happens to be the president of the water board, who wants to build 95 homes and tap into the town's water supply. Each town taps into an aquifer and controls their own water supply, but these are small wells for small towns. There is just not enough water to support such a development, but I don't know what legal resources the town has to fight it.

Our friends coming from Bolivia hit a road block. They were supposed to arrive at the capital on Monday, but when they got to the airport in Bolivia, they were not allowed to leave because, according to the officials, their shot cards were not in order. These people travel internationally all the time and never had any problems. They will try again next Monday, August 8th. He said that he was very frustrated, but finally they prayed and asked the Lord for peace. The Lord has a reason for this delay even if we don't see it.

This is our favorite restaurant. The food is very good and it is very pretty.

We have visited a few friends and went out to eat with Randall, Arleth and Yirardi Sunday night. By the way, they are applying for a tourist visa to visit the USA in October. Their interview is Friday at the capital, We are praying for the Lord's will. Last night we went out to eat with another couple, Walter and Yesenia. He is a local boy, but she is from Nicaragua.

Then, this morning we had breakfast with Alejandra, who was part of the original couples' group, but has since broken up with that man and has another boyfriend. She told us that she still reads the Bible. We encouraged her to attend church with her new boyfriend. She doesn't live in our little town any more, but there is a church frequented by her boyfriend's family near her house.

All this fellowship around the table makes it hard for us to keep our weight down, and it is only the first week!

Prayer requests:
  • Please pray for our friends coming from Bolivia, that they have a smooth and safe trip this time.
  • Pray for safety and good health for us. The roads are just awful!
  • Pray for wisdom and insight as we talk to all our friends here.
  • Pray for safety and protection for our family back home.
Until next time...from the beach...
